Stephen Hawking Is Incorrect, de la Bedovere Says

Physicist Stephen Hawking has somehow concluded in a new book that God did not create the universe and plays no part in how it acts.

I think this retort by Quentin de la Bedovere, the science editor of the Catholic Herald newspaper is excellent and on the mark.

"If all the physical laws had been explained and proved -- which is a million miles from the case -- our understanding of the actions of God would not be one whit greater: his existence and his actions are of a different order.

"Most particularly it would not touch the question of how something existing comes out from nothing. That is a question which science cannot answer, and will never answer, because nothingness is not within its domain. ... Neither [Hawking], nor you, nor I will ever explain creation, except through faith."

Hawking's IQ is estimated to be 150 which, and while in the genius level, is a reasonable distance from what I'll call super intelligent. Perhaps much of his public appeal and notoriety comes from his horrible disabilities which require him to communicate through an elaborate electronic devise, and his ability to use it effectively.

I did think Mr. Hawking was a brilliant man goes to show you what I know.  With that statement my opinion has done a 180 (definitely not my IQ)

Jim, I wonder if you've noticed?  The intelligentsia seems to often times get caught up in its own press.  It's as if because they, for an example, have shown so much brilliance in, say, medicine, they are lead to believe that it also must be true that they are talented in music.  Nevermind one has nothing to do with the other.

I personally think Mr. Hawking's mystique is his electronic voice, terrible paralysis, etc., and not that he is particularly more brilliant than zillions of people practicing in his field.  I'd love to see an academic study in this.

Thanks for your important addition to the post.
