BILL CHERRY'S GREATEST DALLAS PARK CITIES REAL ESTATE BLOG: CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE THE SADER TUESDAY, 4-7-09 AT ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH

CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE THE SADER TUESDAY, 4-7-09 AT ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH

While I'm far from being a Bible scholar, for a Gentile, I am pretty darned knowledgeable about Judaism.

While there are at least two schools of thought on the subject, I am a member of the one that believes that the Last Supper was the celebration of the Passover Seder   I further feel this is an important bond between Jews and Christians that is often unknown, overlooked or both.

Tonight, Tuesday April 7th at 7:00 PM, the congregation of All Saints Episcopal Church, 1617 Abrams Road in Dallas, will celebrate the Seder as they do every year as part of Lent.  The menu includes roasted lamb, haroz, matzo ball soup, bitter herbs, honey glazed carrots and kosher wine.

Bible scholar, Father Ray Ball will preside as participants read responses of the Haggabah, and you will learn the meaning and symbolism of the Seder ritual.

I've been to any number of Seders.  It is a powerful religious celebration that all Christians should experience.  I assure you that your life will be enriched by attending.

Call the Rev. Dr. Ray Ball for reservations and directions to the church.  214 824-4488 or 214 827-9874.  Visitors of all denominations are invited.  A $10 donation per person is asked to defray the cost of the meal.

Hi Bill... what a great idea and tradition.  There is so much to be gained from learning more about those from different cultures or those who have different religious beliefs!

Miss Joanie and Steve --

When I was about 12 I got into a fight with the neighbor kid in our backyard.  It was a Saturday, so my daddy was home.  I got so mad that I made an anti-Semitic comment to him.  My daddy came outside, broke up the fight and then said to me,

"You have never heard anything in my house like you just said to him.  Exactly what did you mean by that?"

Of course I didn't have an answer.  He went back inside, called the rabbi who lived nearby, and told him the only way he knew to make sure I never did that again was to enroll me in Hebrew School with the Jewish boys who were preparing for the Bar Mitzvah.  So I went after school for a couple of years.

Daddy was right on target, just like you, Steve.  This is how you stop hate in the name of religious beliefs.

That and putting braces on my teeth were the two finest things my parents did for me.
