"SUNDAY IN THE PARK" - Robert Schuller's Hour of Power Ministry

Fall is definitely on its way.  It's overcast here in Dallas today, with perhaps some more rain before day's end.  But the squirrels are busy, nevertheless, gathering their food for the cold winter that's sure to come.

The leaves on the trees here in the park are falling, multitudinous in colors and shades, with several layers already covering the grounds.  But one look up makes it obvious that zillions more will fall, and then most of the trees will be bare and gray. - Bill Cherry

DR ROBERT SCHULLER. I've been worrying about Dr. Robert Schuller for sometime.  We know him as the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California.  He's the television minister whose sermons and books have brought the messages of the Christian faith to millions throughout the U.S. and the world.

The weekly Sunday church service from the Crystal Cathedral is broadcast with a congregation in place that, perhaps, numbers 2000.  That was considered a big number when the church was designed.  However, the accumulation of the followers of leaders like Joel Osteen, have dwarfed it in size and attendance.

Mr. Schuller is now 84.  In fact he turned 84 in September.  And while he's still robed and in his place for each Sunday broadcast, I note that his spirit and voice are no longer strong and self-assured.  There are vacant spaces when the camera pans to show the congregation.

And then we learned what I had suspected.  The Crystal Cathedral and its Hour of Power Ministry have fallen into serious financial hard times.  The ministry has filled for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection.  Initial papers indicate that there are about $65 million in debts of which about $30 million are secured by the church building.

What do you suppose will be the final outcome?  I hope that those who have profited from Dr. Schuller's church and personal ministry will step up to help him.

No good person should have to leave this earth watching his life's work going up in flames.
